Sunday Mornings
Our worship service style is traditional with a fun flair! We gather every Sunday morning at 10am for roughly 1 hour and invite everyone to stay for fellowship after, if they choose. We are a no-hush-no-shush church and welcome families with children of all ages and abilities! Although you might see our choir in robes, we are a come-as-you-are church and encourage everyone to dress in a way they feel comfortable in. You will see some folks in skirts and suits and others in jeans and leggings. Masking is optional, and if you would like one, you can ask an usher and they will provide one for you.
Family Ministry
Join us on a Journey – connecting with God and each other! Our volunteer staff is Safe Sanctuary trained, providing an excellent place for your child to grow their knowledge and faith while connecting and creating friendships with others. We are also here to connect with families, encouraging and supporting them in their children’s spiritual growth. What to expect: You will be welcomed as you arrive on Sunday morning, then register your child so that we can provide the best care, before worshiping together. The information the registration form provides about your child, allows us to give each of them individual care. Children join the 10:00 worship service. They are encouraged to come forward for the Children’s Time, and are then excused if they are attending Kids Connect for grades K-5. Their teacher will meet them at the door and escort them to their classroom, and they will be brought back to their families after worship. We offer nursery for babies and toddlers during the worship service, and the lounge is open for the use of nursing mothers.
Music Ministry
Worship service Sermons and Scriptures are supported by a traditional music ministry including organ, piano, choir, and handbells. Additional instrumental ensembles are a part of festive services during the Liturgical Year.
Chancel Choir
A well-balanced four-part adult choir of twenty singers rehearses and sings in worship from September through May. A variety of anthems are used ranging from classic oratorio choruses to spirituals and Gospel arrangements by contemporary composers. The Chancel Choir benefits from a collaborative choral scholars program involving student singers from the School of Music at Western Michigan University. New singers are welcome without audition. Rehearsals are on Wednesdays from 7:15–8:30 p.m.
JuBELLation Handbell Choir
The JuBELLation adult bell choir uses eleven ringers and three octaves each of handbells and tone chimes. The choir rings at least once a month September through May. New members are considered when a vacancy occurs. Rehearsals are on Wednesdays from 5:30–7 p.m.
Organ and Piano
Our organ is a hybrid instrument based on the pipework of a two-manual M.P. Möller instrument (Opus 10488) installed in 1968 which was enhanced with analog voices and a three-manual Rodgers Westminster 890 console in 1987. A new Kawai grand piano was added to our sanctuary in 1991. Piano dedication recitals were presented by Ralph Votapek, winner of the first Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, and Dr. Stephen Zegree from the School of Music at Western Michigan University.
Organist
Our organist since 1975 is Carl Doubleday. Our substitute organist is Julie Rickert.
Choir Director
Both the Chancel Choir and JuBELLation are directed by Darlene Sang.
