It has been so good to see you all on Sundays outdoors, especially on gorgeous days like we’ve been having. Our county’s test positivity rate and caseload are almost at the level for our next phase of reopening, though we aren’t ready to announce indoor worship quite yet. What I can announce is that, starting this Sunday May 30th, masks will be optional for outdoor worship. According to the latest medical guidance, the risk of transmission outdoors is minimal, so long as we either maintain social distance or are vaccinated. Of course, if you feel safer wearing a mask, or just want to show off your collection from last year, go for it! It won’t hurt anyone else if you wear it. And, as always, if you aren’t feeling well, please stay home. We don’t give out attendance awards, so don’t risk others’ health by bringing any illness (not just COVID-19).
Thanks for your continued patience, and we’ll see you (maybe even your face) Sunday!
Your Milwood UMC Reopening Team
I hope you all had a great Holy Week. My name is Jeslyn Gordon. I am the chairperson for our Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC). I shared some great news Easter Sunday at the sunrise service and intended to announce it during the recorded service at 10am, but had some issues. Anyway, I would like to announce the appointment of Deacon Caleb Williams as our new pastor effective July 1st. This appointment has been made by Bishop David Bard, in consultation with the Michigan Conference Cabinet of the United Methodist Church. Deacon Caleb has accepted the appointment. Caleb and his wife, Dr. Colleen Stano, are very excited about this new chapter for them as it begins.
Many of you have been asking who our next pastor will be after Pastor Billie retires. All pastor appointments are made by the Bishop and with limited consultation from us. The SPRC team wanted to wait until we got that final decision to share anything. We hope you can grace us with your understanding about this process. We just found out last week and the timing worked out to announce it at Easter.
The details of Deacon Caleb's appointment will be finalized over the next few weeks and then a charge conference will make it official. As soon as we are able to do so safely, we will have a meet & greet for our congregation to personally meet Deacon Caleb and Colleen. Yes, Caleb is already employed here, but I still hope you reach out to give him a warm congratulations on his appointment. Thank you.
Sunday, June 13, 2021 Service is in person outdoors or online 10 AM. Will be followed by a Celebration of Servant Leader Billie Dalton's Retirement. Sermon is "This is Forever"
